When we evaluate the benefits of exercise on our bodies, we tend to focus on the physical benefits; weight loss, a more attractive physique and a healthier heart just to name a few but over the last few years evidence suggests there are more immediate benefits of regular exercise on the mind not just the body such as improved concentration, sharper memory, faster learning, prolonged mental stamina, enhanced creativity and lower stress.

Regular exercise is an important part of everyday living with proven mental and physical benefits whether it’s a vigorous workout in the gym or a brisk 30 minutes walk around the block our bodies are meant to move.

Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise and physical activity deliver oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and help your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you have more energy to go about your daily activities.

Physical activity stimulates the nervous system in turn releasing chemicals from the brain known as endorphins triggering a happy feeling within the body. When you exercise regularly you feel better about your physical self which can boost confidence and improve self- esteem.

Taking the first steps to a new health and fitness regime can be the hardest part, as a professional rugby player you learn the importance of team support. Encouraging your peers in your daily routine to get up and get active, it can be as simple as getting up from your desk at lunch and going for a walk and getting to know your colleagues and creating a supportive network motivating one another.
